The final week of the Olympic Games has officially begun. We thought the perfect way to bring this special event to a close was to give you a recap of what has happened so far. It’s been an eventful month for sports so let’s begin!
The last month has been one for the books, with new records set and those iconic 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals handed out, we have loved seeing how the world has come together to celebrate sports.
Opening Ceremony
As mentioned in one of our previous articles, we saw a jaw-dropping opening ceremony. This star-studded event saw performances from the likes of Celine Dion, Gojira, Lady Gaga, and many more. This was a memorable way to commemorate the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games in the streets of Paris.
New World Records
There have been some excellent world records beaten at this year’s Olympics, let’s take a look:
1,500 Metre Freestyle Swimming
Katie Ledecky performed phenomenally during her 1,500 metre freestyle, so much so that she outpaced her previous record from 2020! Her gold-medal winning performance set a new world record. She has the most gold medals won by a female Olympian!
Men’s Surfing
Brazilian athlete, Gabriel Medina set the record straight that he is one of the greatest surfers of all time, literally! He achieved a score of 9.90 during a heat, this is the highest single wave score to ever be achieved during the Olympics.
100 Metre Race
Julien Alfred did her country proud. She won the gold medal for the 100 metre race making it Saint Lucia’s first ever gold medal in any sport!
Gymnastics
The queen of gymnastics, Simone Biles did the USA proud! She won a whopping three gold medals and one silver medal in Paris. She is now the most decorated gymnast in the United States in Olympic history!
