The bank holiday weekend was a success for McLaren fans! Not only were the qualifying sessions a success, so was the race day. In today’s article, we are going to be giving you a look into what went down at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.
Circuit Zandvoort is known for its classic style track, from challenging curves formed from the natural dunes to the interesting history behind the 1.570-mile track, this is such an exciting weekend in the Formula One calendar.
Fan favourite and Dutchman, Max Verstappen, has not lost a home race since the track returned to the calendar back in 2021, until now. Starting second on the grid, it was a great start for Max as he overtook Lando as they approached the first corner and began leading the race. However, during lap 18, McLaren’s Lando Norris regained his first-place spot and created a whopping 22.8 second time gap between himself and Verstappen. Fans could not believe their eyes!
By this point in the race, there was an extremely slim chance that the Red Bull car would have overtaken the McLaren again.
This made the Dutch Grand Prix Lando’s second career win after taking victory in Miami back in May. Although this wasn’t a perfect race after how the start went down, all was forgotten when he turned it around and took that 1st place trophy.
Norris didn’t just take 1st place start on the grid; he also won the Dutch Grand Prix, gained an extra point for setting the fastest lap, and earned Driver of the Day. What a weekend for the 24-year-old driver!
The overall podium was:
1st – Lando Norris, McLaren
2nd – Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing
3rd – Charles Leclerc, Ferrari
The current top 3 driver standings look like this:
1st – Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing – 295 points
2nd – Lando Norris, McLaren – 225 points
3rd – Charles Leclerc, Ferrari – 192 points
It’s a very close competition, and what a way to come back.
