Recap: The Belgian Grand Prix

We have finally reached the Formula One summer break and what a season it has been so far! From Hamilton’s shock announcement transfer from Mercedes to Ferrari to Lando Norris’ first victory in Miami, it has been one for the books. To conclude the first half of the season, we saw the Belgian Grand Prix unfold. Let’s recap and see what went down…

The Spa-Francorchamps track is notorious for its long straights and fast corners. It’s a race known for overtaking and in worse cases, unfortunate incidents on the track.

After the qualifying results, the top 3 on Sunday’s grid were Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Segio Perez. This was a surprising line-up but nonetheless it was an exciting change.

The race itself was tame, nothing major happened, only a few hiccups to begin with for Lando Norris, it was a 1-2 finish for Mercedes with George Russell in 1st and Lewis Hamilton in 2nd place, or so we thought.

Here’s where it gets interesting… after the race ended, the FIA were notified about the weight of George Russell’s winning Mercedes car. After meticulously inspecting, it was announced that Russell has been disqualified due to his car being under the required weight limit. In Formula One, the minimum weight limit for a car is 798kg. Due to this disqualification, Hamilton took the victory for the Belgium Grand Prix.

After Russell’s unfortunate disqualification, the race results looked like this:

1st Place- Lewis Hamilton

2nd Place- Oscar Piastri

3rd Place- Charles Leclerc

Now, we have some breaking news as of Monday 29th July, Carlos Sainz has just announced on social media that as of 2025, he will be leaving Scuderia Ferrari and joining the Williams team alongside Alex Albon! This is a shock, but we cannot wait to see what’s in store for this new season beginning March 2025.

The summer break will conclude towards the end of August, and we will be back on 25th August to report the highlights of the Dutch Grand Prix taking place at the Circuit Zandvoort. In the meantime, stay tuned for any news regarding announcements within the world of F1.
