Real Madrid Advance to the Final of the Supercopa

Real Madrid were victorious over Barcelona in last nights game which decided one of the final spots for the Supercopa de Espana which takes place on January 16th in only a few days’ time. Real Madrid will play either Athletico Madrid or Athletic Club depending on who wins tonight out of their semi-final.

The El Classico is one of the most, if not the most historical matches in the entire history of football, remembering amazing players such as Ronaldiniho, Sergio Ramos, Carlos Puyol, Zidane, Iker Casillas, Xavi, Iniesta and Eto’o. So many more amazing players, however we don’t have all day. But this match definitely brought us many matches that were incredible and moments we will never forget.

However, it is safe to say that that both teams haven’t been at the quality they once were, which is a very common thing to happen in the world of football with other team such as Arsenal and Manchester United who have both not had the recent seasons they would have been hoping for. This happens for a few reasons; with the change of managers, it can disrupt the team’s chemistry together and cause them to lose the flow that they had on the pitch before. Another reason that both teams haven’t been at the quality they used to be is losing players due to age or moving teams. The most obvious being both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi having moved from Barcelona to PSG and Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid to go to Juventus, then moving back to his former team Manchester United.

Barcelona have been the team that has come off worse after all of this having had a poor season this year as they are currently 6th in the league, whereas Real Madrid are currently 1st. Barcelona fans have been frustrated for a few seasons now as they believe the club hasn’t been performing to it’s usual standards for awhile now. Losing Lionel Messi last season due to not being able to cover his wages caused lots of anger throughout their fanbase. Hopefully we see Barcelona return to their usual standard soon and continue to make history in the world of football.
